Goodnight Moon, hello martini.
Anastasia was through making out with Ian. He was never going to change.
Years ago, Marion's shrink told her she needed to come up with a version of her childhood she could live with. She thought he said "aversion," and promptly took hold of a hideous tale of woe she particularly liked. It was thousands of dollars later that she finally sorted out the distinction.
Paige didn't care. She knew she had the right of way.
Boris the boy genius was stumped.
"I don't know, the last thing he said was something about being king of the world, and then I may have accidentally pushed him."
Samantha looked around the playground in amazement. Her mother had been right. She really was the smartest and the prettiest.
Mary Katherine blamed it on Mary Margaret and Mary Margaret said it was Mary Josephine. All Sister Agnes knew is that one of the girls was going down. ◊

SLOANE TANEN is the author of ten books. Her latest is the novel, There's a Word for That. STEFAN HAGEN is a photographer based in New York City.
